Laptop Check-in

Last we checked in, I'd just installed the HyDe dotfiles on my new laptop, and had set steam up. I hadn't yet started configuring the rest of my desktop.
New Year New Laptop
We begin this post with a solemn farewell to my old gaming PC. No longer shall I be booting her up into Pop!_OS.
In the wake of my worst Baldur’s Gate 3 experience (so far), I’ve moved over to a hand-me-down, beefy gaming laptop. Hopefully, when I open BG3

What I've set up so far:
- Desktop theme
I imported the Pixel Dream theme from the HyDe theme gallery and chose my wallpaper from the wide selection included. The initial HyDe install does include some basic themes, but there are also a lot of others to check out in the gallery. Pixel Dream specifically has quite a few animated wallpaper options (e.g. the wallpaper shown in the title photo). - Hypridle (Hyprland's idle management daemon)
This was one of the first things I changed, because it had a really short timer for inactivity till it suspended the screen and locked it, which was (I'm sure you can imagine) very inconvenient. So, I extended the timers to be much longer.

Yazi (terminal based file manager) view of edited hypridle config file.
- LibreOffice (Office suite that includes word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, vector graphics and flowcharts, databases, formula editing)
There are also various extensions for it available, I installed the hunspell (spell checking) and language-tool (grammar checking) extensions. I later discovered that in order to import and manage media within LibreOffice, I also needed to install gstreamer (the media framework it uses).

LibreOffice.
- Wine & Bottles (alternative for running Windows/Microsoft programs)
I installed these to give me an alternative option for running games (other than Steam). I'm still trialing it at the moment, it's worked for some games like Unreal Tournament 3, but not for others like Stardew Valley. Another alternative I plan to try is Lutris, so we'll so if I can get either of these to work reliably. - Thunderbird (email client)
