Fragile Like a Bomb

Usually I'd include photos of my modded clothes being worn, but I haven't had the time to do that at the moment. I might update this post with those photos at a later date, or I might just leave it as it is.
My mom bought me this top for Christmas, because it was 'very me' (I was very hot-headed as a child, and probably am still a little).

I wanted to make the top more interesting so I'd wear it more - I don't wear much pink. When I was a child, my brother used to joke about me being a little bomb sometimes, so I thought that made sense as the image to take from the logo and put on the back.
I started off by cropping it, and drawing out the design with a dressmaking crayon and doing a stem stitch in light pink for the outside of the bomb.
Then I ran out of light pink thread so I used a darker pink for the details. I also managed to spill wax on it when I was moving things around my room, I think it really makes the design pop.

For the fuse, I continued using the stem stitch but to make the texture more interesting, I used both a lighter and darker brown for it.
I went back to a basic stem stitch for the spark, but with three layers of colour for a comic style spark. I used just the darker red thread for the emphasis lines on the spark, as shown in the title image.

At this point I'd finished the embroidery, but I still needed to protect the stitching from wear and tear. So my final step was ironing on the protective backing to cover the exposed stitching on the inside of the top, which also straightened out any stretched distortion in the top from the embroidery process.

Before and after adding protective backing.
